Grandma in the war?

Hi all,
Apparently my grandma was in the army during the Second World War, according to my mam. Can this be true? I've looked on the internet and found references to the women’s land army, maybe she meant this.
My mam remembers her mum saying she should be entitled to some medal if she claimed for it. Looking on various sites I would need to know her regiment and enlisted number, anyone know how I could find this out?

Probably means the Womens Land Army, like you said. There's been something on news fairly recently about members of the land army being recognised for their services during the war, with a medal (a little late for many I would suspect)
