I am trying to find the Walker Family who lived in Barking. I believe Edward Walker born c1840 in Hastings may be my husband's great grandfather but I can only find him in 1891 under Ed. Walker. He is listed as living with Fredk c1871 and Ann c1873. I can not find any trace of the family before this time. Edward was a Bricklayer - this shows on the 1891 census and I also have the marriage certificate of his daughter Caroline stating his occupation as bricklayer. I can not find any trace of the family before or after 1891 ( I have Caroline's history from her marriage onwards) I have an earlier thread which indicated that the name may have been mis-spelt as Walder but I have now looked at this and I don't think that this is the case. Any help would be appreciated as we are having a family reunion in a few weeks time and it would be nice to get more info. cheers

Thank you all very much. you have all been very helpful.
I will give the Walder family another look. A great deal does connect but I just wonder why they kept being listed as Walder and then at Caroline's marriage became Walker and stayed as Walker. Probably haven't delved deeply enough.
1871/1881 they appear to be Walder - sorry just thinking aloud
Caroline married James Day in 1887 and the surname is Walker.
It is in 1891 census Caroline and James are listed as Day but in 1901 the family is listed under Walker.
no wonder I am confused!
Once again many thanks. I will let you know if I get any joy.
