I am trying to find WILLIAM ELIJAH WALKER. Not sure of his dob - likely mid 1800's. He sailed to SOUTH AFRICA and married a Miss PITHER (JANE?) at GRAAFF - REINET- July 14th 1899. We MAY have found her on the outbound ship to SA. It understood WILLIAM ELIJAH worked for the British Army there but was not a soldier. They had 2 children - HARRY BADEN WALKER (11.5.1900) and BEATRICE DOROTHY WALKER ('Dorothy' -1902). Mrs (JANE?) WALKER returned to England in MARCH 1902 with the children on the 'CARRISBROOKE CASTLE.' It's likely that WILLIAM ELIJAH WALKER returned in 1904. as we have a telegraph which refers to him sailing home on 1.8.1904 addressed to 'WALKER - TORRENS RD STRATFORD'. We can't find this address for that time. No records after this except that JANE?? WALKER died around 1917 and may be buried in GARRETT LANE CEMETERY - WANDSWORTH so presumably lived in that area. FOREST GATE has been mentioned too. If anyone has any information on any of the above people or any suggestions about where to look for further information we would be very grateful. Pam and John. |
