..or surrounding area, may be ancestors of my wife.
I tried to go into the Ward side of her family (they are from East Anglia) but every time the hot matches are updated it throws up what seems like hundreds. It appears that East Anglia is full of Wards, and my current amount of free time makes any rational search almost impossible.
What I DO know is that my wife's nan, Madeline Marie Ward, ended up in Braintree, having been born in Ipswich in, I think, around 1887.
If anyone could help this would be very much appreciated.

Have you got this
Births Jun 1887 (>99%) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ward Madeline Marie Ipswich 4a 826
As this gives you the referene number you could order the birth cert and this will give more detail.
Perhaps someone could do a 1891 look-up for you unless you have all this info.
Regards Paula

Just an interesting little chestnut to go with this...from family recollections it would apprear that Prescilla wasn't actually little Madeline's mother at all, but her grandmother. The real mother was Louisa Ward.
Apparently she had an affair with a local Doctor, became pregnant, and the good man offered to marry her, but she declined and had the baby.
As a result, and to avoid family scandal, Madeline Marie Ward was brought up as Louisa's sister.
My, how times have changed.
