Robert Ward Born 1890 Joined Grenadier Guards 1908 No. 13559 Killed in action 26 May 1918. The C.W.G.C.records refer to Robert as son of Hannah Ward and the late John Ward. However to the best of my knowldge John Ward did not die until 4th Qtr 1922. Have I got it wrong or is it because C.W.G.C. did not compile there records until after1922 and their citation does not refer to the time of Robert's death. jeff Ward.

Thanks everyone for your help, I was aware of most of the information provided. There is confusion about D.o.B.s. In the 1911 census John Ward states he is 52 and born in 1859, so I'm reasonably sure the 1922 death is his.
Robert was also flexible about his date of birth. While he was clearly born in the latter part of 1890 when he enlisted in Jan 1908 he informed the recruiting officer he was 18 and 4 months when in fact he was only 17. He went on to win the Military Medal in 1917. Thanks again J.W.
