My mother, Laura Smith (nee Ward),(now deceased) was born in the Blaydon, Winlaton on 17th May 1913. She was born to Mary Ward (unmarried), but adopted at birth by Adam Ward, Mary's brother, and his wife, Annie. He was a soldier in the 10th Batallion, Durham Light Infantry and was killed in France, aged 27 on 7th September 1916, 3 days before the end of World War 1. I am looking for any possible links to trace my mother's real father. I have obtained my mother's birth certificate, but the name of the father is not recorded.
