My grt, grt grandfather's death cert tells me he died at the Union Infirmary, Isleworth, London. Can anyone tell me if this was a general hospital or in fact linked to a workhouse? What is meant by the term Union infirmary?. His wife was still alive at the time of his passing, and she was living at 22, The Butts, Brentford, Middlesex at the time.

I think it was probably a general hospital. Googling "Union Infirmary, Isleworth" found this, among other items:

MISS PARKER, who was trained at the Wareford
Hospital, Leamington, has been appointed Sister
at the Brentford Union Infirmary, Isleworth in
which institution she has been a nurse for the last
two years.,
