Find Ancestors

Hello I am trying to find Peggy Williams the half sister of my mother Catherine Williams.They share the same father James Williams born abt 1876 in Lower Norwood Lambeth,he was married to Lydia Brown but left the family in about 1918? I understand that he remarried although there was no divorce and Peggy was his child from his 2nd marriage. I have also been told that my mother and Peggy did meet once after James died but this is only a family tale and I don't know how much truth there is to the story. I would like to find out more about my grandfather so if you can help it would be great.I think Peggy must have been born between 1920 and 1930 but this is only a guess. We have also been told that they lived in Kent, but again I don't know how true this is. Any help would be appreciated.

Mel - My mother was born 3rd March 1910 in Dover Kent James and Lydia were her parents.James father was Francis Williams know as Frank.

Michele - you have the right marriage , I have the cert and it confirms his fathers name as Frank Williams

Vivienne - I have no idea when or where he died only that it must have been around 1950??? as my sister can remember the police calling on my gran with the news of his death,but as she was only a child at the time she may have got the times mixed up.

Well at least with the 1911 census you now know that they did indeed live in Kent at one time.

To find his death would entail searching quarter by quarter year by year at the moment,a long boring job,if you wait a while Ancestry should have them all transcribed soon and it will make it a bit easier,not that it will be easy with a name like James Williams if you have no idea where he died.

Thanks for your answer, my sister will be back from Canada tomorrow and I will try and get her to think again about what she remembers, she told me that James and his 2nd wife and Peggy were all living in Dover not far from where my gran lived when he died but again I think my sister's memory is playing her tricks. I will post any progress and failing that will have to wait for Ancestry to update their files.

So do you wish us to take a look and see if we can find James williams with his father Francis aka Frank??

Thanks Mel but no I have all the information about his siblings and his father Frank, the only problem I am having with that line of inquiry is Franks parents marriage certificate, I am doing research in that area but its complicated.Frank Williams mother is given as Caroline Martlew on his birth cert' and his father as James Williams but so far I haven't been able to find a marriage for them.From what I've been able to find it looks as if Caroline Martlew was already married when she met James Williams but I'm still trying to work that one out.
