Hi,

I am looking for Stanley Edward Williams' military records and emigration to Canada.

I already know quite a bit about him (he was my mother's uncle) He was born in Croydon,Surrey in 1890 to Emily Virtue and john Alexander Williams. He emigrated to Canada somewhere around 1911/12 - he was still in Croydon in 1911 age 21 living with his mother. He joined the Royal North West Canadian Mounted Police in Saskachewan. In 1916 he joined the Canadian overseas Expeditionary Force - 217th overseas Battalion -and was living in Melville. He went to France and was killed at Vimy Ridge on 2nd September 1918. He is noted on the Vimy Ridge Commonwealth Memorial.

I have his attestation papers for when he went to France and info of his reg number, age, date of death etc but I am looking for any other info I can find on him

If anyone has a worldwide membership,I found a Stanley Edward Williams leaving Bristol for Halifax,Canada in 1912 but I dont have access to the information.
He was in 4th battalion,Royal West Surrey regiment for 3 years before joining the RCMP.

If anyone can help with any of this I would be very grateful

thanks

Rosie

The Canadian Soldiers of War record is correct - the only thing which doesn't sound right is on the emigration record with his occupation as being a farm labourer - he was a clerk but it could be the right one.You never know! He travelled on his own.

Thanks x
