Hi
Can anyone help me I have access to the 1911 census but cannot find my Grandfather Edward Williams (common name I know) so here are the facts I know.
Edward Williams was 26 when he married in 1934 ( I have his wedding certificate) he was a coal miner Living in Bessemer Terrace Tudhoe Durham at this time so he must have been born 1907/8.
His dad on the wedding certificate is Evan Williams also a miner. I have been told by my family that they came from Bargoed in South Wales and I know Edward had brothers Evan and Albert but do not know for sure when they were born. Their mother may have been called Rosie. I have tried every combination on the 1911 census in both Wales and Durham, but have got no where. Any ideas or help would be appreciated.

Could he have lied on his wedding certificate if his wife was older than he was? Or did he definitely need a birth certificate to prove who he was by 1934? (Just a thought) I thought Bargoed would come under Bedwellty, but I cannot get a marriage for Evan Williams to Ros*, and also I cannot find Evan (as a miner) and Rose with son Edward, in 1911, in Wales.
I have just been plugging away at all combinations as you have, so no inspired ideas, sorry.

I wonder...... ??????????

You do say that you 'think' the mothers name was Rosie? - Could it have been Selina?

Now, this is only an idea and I can't do any more work on it till later but perhaps worth taking a look at?

There is this family living in Tudhoe, Durham in 1911 - they are originally from South Wales and the occupation fits!
They have an Evan and an Edward (both incorrectly transcribed - the image shows them to be Williams!! )

They do not have an Albert but they have had one child die so this could have been him?

Registration District:

.....................

I was expecting to find a marriage to Selina LEWIS but instead, I found this one?
Possible marriage:

Marriages Jun 1902 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mayo Emily Louisa Cardiff 11a 546
Thomas John Cardiff 11a 546
***Wheten Selina Cardiff 11a 546
***Williams Evan Cardiff 11a 546

Selina had not been married before as this would be her birth?

Birth:
Births Dec 1881 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WHETEN Selina Cardiff 11a 278

So, I can't yet see where their adopted son, Stanley Lewis comes from.

This would be a probable for 'their' Edward:

Births Sep 1908 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Williams Edward Durham 10a 443

Have to go just now but will check back later to see what you think.

Good morning Olivia,

Well, your uncles middle name does seem to confirm that we have the correct family here.

They seem to have had further children - George, Sidney, William W and Gwenniefa - all born in Durham.

Mothers maiden name is sometimes Wheten and sometimes Wheaten but all seem to be the same family.

Can you confirm those names in your family?

Hi Dea
Gwen is one of the names the others do run in our family do you mind me asking how you found them and do you have their birth certificate references? This has opened so many doors!
Thanks
Olivia
