Find Ancestors

I have two pieces of info on my grandmother: her marriage cert and her daughter's birth cert. Both place her in Devon in 1912.
Elizabeth Ellen Williams c1880, father William Williams. She lived in Exeter when she gave birth and she lived in Newton Abbot when she married, both in the same year.
That's all I know and I cannot find her in free BMDs births or baptisms.
The 1881 census lists an Elizabeth Ellen age 2, daughter of William Williams in Newton Abbot so it could be her but how can I be certain?

Have you found her on the 1911? This will give place of birth.

The father is deceased on the marriage cert with no reference to ocupation.
Neither of the two witnesses were related to her.

There is a Bessie Williams 1879 in Newton Abbot 1911 visiting an Edith and Thirza Satterley. She was a shop assistant.

I can't find her on the 1911 census.
Ther is an Elizabeth Williams in Barnstaple but she is married to James Williams.

Does the 1911 give any more info on the visit? I know people use alternative names but how can one be sure?

This one says that Elizabeth the mother is married and she is a Sailors Wife.

Surely just because she was in Exeter & Newton Abbot in 1912 doesn't mean she was necessarily born in Devon...?

And if she was - there are three entries in BMDs for 1879 for Devon -Elizabeth Jane, Elizabeth Priscilla and Elizabeth Ann, all specific second names. No Elizabeth Ellen !

No, that's the point. I don't have a birth cert, that's the problem !

If you buy the birth cert for Lionel it will tell you his fathers name and his mothers maiden name. there is only one Lionel Williams born Newton Abbott.
