Barbara -- thanks for that. I've signed up with the Birmingham History Forum -- if someone there doesn't have an answer I don't know who would! Marjorie |

Anne-Marie -- thank you for your reply. The problem with my grandfather is that I have no real information prior to a marriage in 1878 but a note I'd scribbled down from an aunt a few years ago mentioned he was at the school, so I have now signed up with the Birmingham History Forum. Marjorie |

Marjorie, have you already asked people to look for your grandfather prior to marriage? If not let us know and we can give it a shot! |

brummiejan -- I just feel gloomy, looking for Williams's. My grandfather, George Frederick Williams married Amy Dixon in Shrewsbury in August 1878. His fathers name was given as John Williams, wine merchant. All census records have him born in Welshpool but his age varies. However I believe the age given on the marriage cert, 22, is most likely to be the correct one, which makes him born circa 1856. |

Dea, can I just check - in 1881 he is with Amy and she is a "widow" 1891? Have you found him 1891? |

You are all quite brilliant. My poor grandpa, whom I thought to be a wife deserter was clearly himself deserted! |

brummiejan -- I had a horrible feeling they might have gone to ground and somehow escaped the 1911 census -- I was hoping for a lot from that. |
