Find Ancestors

I have the marriage certificate of said William Williams, stating that he was 23 in February 1904 and that his father was a George Williams who was deceased and had been a gardener.
This all took place in Bridgend in Wales, and I'm trying to find out more about this family, whether there were any siblings and anything further back, and because of the common names I am having trouble. Can anyone point me in the right direction with any suggestions.

Who did he marry? I might be able to find him in 1911 and work backwards!

Are you sure it was February 1904? Not finding a William Williams marriage in the Jan / Feb / Mar quarter in Bridgend....

He married a Millicent Ruby Hill who was 2 years younger.

If they married in 1903, that is 8 years not 10.
William Ethelbert Hill is presumably hers. She also appears older not younger.

Yep - they are fibbing a bit, but strangely stating that William Ethelbert Hill is a Hill not a Williams. So bit weird.

And no doubt she lied about her age on the marriage certificate to appear younger than her husband, that happened a lot.

I remember seeing on one census they had her age wrong by 10 years. I am trusting the marriage certificate over the transcription of a census. Yes, I do believe William Ethelbert is hers, before they married.

In previous census records Millicent's DOB does match her being born after William, I just reckon its a transcription error for 1911.

It certainly fits. Though I am beginning to think the only way I'm gonna get back is to order his birth certificate, at least that will give me his mothers name and I might be able to progress with siblings etc from there.

I'm not sure that is him Katie as on his marriage certificate it states his father was a George Williams although deceased, who was a gardener.

I am beginning to hate the Williams surname, as I have another branch thats proving hard too. Not exactly a rare surname is it?

Rhys - are there any WIlliams' witnesses at the marriage?

And does the cert state an address for William?

The witnesses are John Westcombe and Maud Hapgood, whilst the address for William states Corntown, Ewenny which is just south of Bridgend.

Interestingly in 1901 there is a Williams family in Corntown - with David Williams the head who is a Gardener. Perhaps could have been related - a family business?
