Hi all,

Trying to find out info about Lena McCulloch (later known as Lena Williams due to marriage), also known as Helen, or Helena.

She was born in Ireland about 1888, but later lived in Neilston in Renfrewshire, Scotland. Her father was William McCulloch and her mother Ellen (possibly Ellen Hulton but unsure). Her husband was Archibald Williams.

Among her children were Isabella, Archibald Richard, William J., Agnes, Margaret, Robert and a second Isabella, nearly all of which were born in Neilston, but some possibly born in Bishopbriggs or Ireland.

I'm really keen to know more about Lena - how, why and when did she come to Scotland, did she come with other family (parents perhaps), what was her ethnic/religious background and what part of Ireland did she hail from?

Hope someone out there can help or point me in the right direction.

J

Most migrations from Ireland to the mainland were for economic reasons

Try googling Irish bmd, and looking for her birth registration

Have you tried the 1911 Scottish census? Not aure if the same, but on the England/Wales one it usually gives birthplace more precisely as people completed it themselves.

Had a look in 1901 census. They don't appear. Could be that they arrived between 1901 and her wedding in 1905.
