I am trying to find details of my great grandmother. I only know her husbands details. He was called George Frederick Wilson & lived most of his life in Manchester. When he died he was living ar 10 Mellor St in Failsworth Mcr. He was born in 1880 & died in 1963. I think they were married in Nov 1901 . I am afraid that I do not even know her christian name . They had 3 sons, including my granfather Stanley & 2 daughters. Many Thanks.

There's a quick way you might be able to find out!

FreeBMD: http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl

Find this entry:

Marriages Dec 1901
WILSON George Frederick Manchester 8d 472

and click on the page number, and if that's GFW, one of the brides is his.

You have to order the certificate to know which one.

I'm letting you have the fun of finding that yourself!

Stanley's birth cert is what you need to get................that will tell you her name

I assume you have looked on freebmd for a possible marriage?

And checked the 1911 census, which is FREE to search?

This looks like the marriage:-

Name: George Frederick Wilson
Year of Registration: 1901
Quarter of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec
District: Manchester (1837-1924)
County: Lancashire
Volume: 8d
Page: 472

His spouse was either Polly Smith or Beatrice Bowes.

If you have Stanley's year of birth, and the names of the other sons and daughters, it could be possible to find them in the 1911 census.

http://www.1911census.co.uk/search/tnaform.aspx

The thing to do is search for Stanley Wilson, with that year of birth +/- 2 years, and see where he is. There is one in Prestwich aged 9 months. But there doesn't seem to be a correct George living with him. (Searching for any Wilson in Prestwich living with a Stanley Wilson.)

Oh well. I do still like to think that if people know how, they like to make their own discoveries ...

There is a George Frederick Wilson born 1880, living in Prestwich in the 1911 census. I don't have any credits to check the transcription though.

Living with a George Frederick Wilson in Prestwich (or with a George and a Frederick, it can't be distinguished) is one of the brides from the 1901 marriage. I'm still going to let Janice have the fun of finding it herself.

Stanley's birth seems to have been Dec 1911.............

Please, folks, let Janice find it for herself............................
