Trying to find out anything re: Alfred Christopher Wood who married Julia Symonds circa 1896 in Ipswich,Suffolk. They were my grandparents. I can trace the Symonds line but not the Wood one. Their son, Arthur was my Dad. They also had daughters.
Lived in York Road, Ips. - 1901 before my father was born. Any info. much appreciated. Linda Rachel.

The marriage cert. for Julia/Alfred reveals that Alfred was a widower aged 31 and that his father's name was Charles. The name then is Woods. In 1905 when their son,Arthur was reg'd. it is Wood. Any info..much appreciated. Linda

Linda just looked at your thread again. What was Alfred's occupation on his marriage cert? I have found one married in 1891 who is a 'Packing Case Maker' living with his in-laws.

Any good, Jennifer

Hi, Jennifer. Both Alfred and Charles were blacksmiths although this could have been in the iron foundry in Ipswich. I have found a Charles Wood aged 41,blacksmith,widower living at Bishops Hill in Ipswich. This is the same area that Alfred was living in when he married in 1896. BUT I can find no Alfred in Charles family at all. I suppose if Alfred was illegitimate the father's name might not be accurate, maybe. Or, he was only ever Alfred on certificates but was known as something else in everyday life! I never imagined it would be so difficult. I have not got round to checking his birth cert. yet, That is the next step. Thanks for your help. Linda
