HELP please anyone joseph wright seem to have hit a brick wall got information on josephs marriage to Ellen lomas,worsbrough dale yorkshire,cant find birth certificate he married december 17th 1870,his father was also Joseph a labourer anything appreciated would like to get his mothers name HELP regards Pat. |

This looks like the same Senior family that I found in the 1851 census but now in the 1861 census with Joseph Wright being called Joseph Senior:- |

I don't really think it's all that complicated - it still happens today. Lots of children are born with one name and then are known by their step-father's name so that the whole family use one name. In the past though, people often thought that they had better return to their birth name on official documents. |

His fathers name on marriage certificate was Joseph wright same as his a labourer,by profession witness Robert inchbold,and Henry Allerton as far as i can make out thanks pat. |

If Joseph gave his name as Joseph Wright to the vicar or registrar and was then asked what his father's name was and he just said "Joseph", then the person recording the information probably just "assumed" that his father's surname was Wright too. |
