I'm trying to find the death records for John. His birth was registered in March quarter in Hackney, London 1903 under the name of John Christopher Richard Yung - I'm waiting for his birth certificate. It is thought by my aunts that he died sometime between early 1925 and late 1929 in a road accident. I've searched every quarter of the England & Wales death index for those years but found nothing obvious. His death may have been recorded either abroad or as a military death (he was Sapper 1863204 in the Royal Engineers at the time of his marriage in 1924 and possibly when he died) but I do not have access to those records. I cannot get access to his service records until I obtain permission from his only son, John Edward Young 1925 (my aunts' and my mother's half-brother) - for whom there is currently a worldwide search because he literally disappeared about 18 months before I was born in June 1952.

In 1924, John C R married Queenie Elizabeth Cook (my grandmother through her second marriage in 1930 at which she was recorded as a widow), she died in 1962. I have both of my grandmother's marriage certificates.

Hi Diddydoris

Thankyou for the thought but I've already considered that; the problem is that we don't know where he died and only have a five year range. I tried the obvious: Medway area newspapers but their archives are not sufficiently indexed to cover anything but major events that far back.

A public thank you to Heidi who came up with a possible WW1 medal record card.

Happy hunting everyone

Thank you also to Dorsetbaby for her efforts.

His is one of the most frustrating searches I have conducted in nine years at this game. Our ancestors did not make it easy for us, did they?
