I cannot find a marriage certificate for my ggrandfather. His name is Samuel William Young, b 1860 Kingston. He married Pauline Maria (surname unknown). She was from Switzerland, Geneva. I have a trace on the family on 1901 and 1911 census. They married c1893 (1911 census shows they'd been married for 18 years). As she was from Switzerland, I cannot rule out they got married in Geneva, but as I can trace him on census records, I think it unlikely. Any help gratefully received. I am keen to find her surname to look into the Swiss side of things

Thanks

Looks like he was already married. The K looks like a W on the image and the occupation's the same as 1901.

Thank you so much for all your replies. I'm sorry that I've taken so long to come back. I've not done anything on my family trees for nearly 2 years. It has been a very madly busy 18 months.

I will have a look into Pauline Colin. I'll have to try and find some info on Swiss Genealogy. I'm still confused about their marital status, whereby they say they are married for 18 years on the census yet I cannot find a marriage cert. I had already found the marriage cert of Emily and Samuel, but have yet to find a death cert, so I guess it's not beyond the realms of possibility that they just separated and to appear "proper" Pauline took Samuel's name and they just said they were married!

I am slightly disappointed to see that they may have been in the poor house at one point, but again, it is something I will look further into.

Thank you everyone for taking the time to help me - it is much appreciated, albeit it very belatedly.
