William Henry Young was born in 1863 in Ballarat to Alexander and Margaret Young (nee White). He also had a sister Emmela Jane (Emily) and a brother, George.
He left home when he was young and eventually married in Bourke, NSW, in 1900. By then, his name was Philip Bourke.
I am interested to know whether he had married earlier under any other name as many searches of records have not revealed any other marriages.
Thank you in advance for any assistance... Anne

Hello, Mel
I've traced descendants of Philip's surviving siblings and am now locating information about his father's family in Jamaica.
How did we find him? After many years searching for Philip Bourke in Ballarat a member of the family suggested we were looking for the wrong name, because on her wedding day Philip told her she could choose which name she'd like - Young or Bourke. We 'knew' his mother was Margaret White, there was a sister named Emily and supposedly another sister, Sophie, had married a Mr Young. We also knew his birth date. So, went to Ballarat, visited the church and spent hours going through the records to find Margaret White had Emily, William and George who survived. George married Sophie in WA! Dates matched and so, we'd found his father, too.
We shared information with descendants, and had a family reunion. Surprise, surprise - we had many similar features. We also had a photo that was in Grandfather's possession in Bourke taken at a wedding. I was sure that the two women in the photo were Emily and Sophie, and family members confirmed it. Seemed unlikely that he would be in Bourke with a photo of the two women taken in Melbourne without a connection.
It's been a long journey to where we are at now. He may have changed his name several times, too...
Thanks for your help. Regards Anne
