Potty

Potty Report 24 Feb 2008 17:09

This has got me beat! I think we must just hope the 1910 census will show something!

All I can find for William during the war is a Medal card for a William E Brewerton but it has no personal info on it.

Well, at least we have helped Rowena to go back a bit with Thomas's grandparents!!

Rowena

Rowena Report 24 Feb 2008 17:04

I had not thought of that senario, it all make sense now I and the great grandson of a name changing bigamist. If however he joined the Army how much information would Thomas have had to give ?

Germaine Report 24 Feb 2008 17:00

Yes just found that Potty so unless he had two wives on the go where was he.
I even had a look at initials but nothing standing out.
Bu if he was a bigamist why use false name for his first!! marriage.

Potty

Potty Report 24 Feb 2008 16:58

Here is William's marriage - so there were two brothers:
Marriages Dec 1915 (>99%)
Brewerton William E Swain Holbeck 9b 1414

No ideas at the moment. It's beginning to look as if Thomas was locked up in a cupboard until 1910 when he got married! Unless he started as William, changed his name and age when he married Ann Lazenby and changed it back to marry Fanny (bigamously).

Going to check if William's has an army record.

Germaine

Germaine Report 24 Feb 2008 16:52

Well the only other thing I can think of now is to hope William wasn't lost in the war and go through the deaths page by page and see if and when he died.
Have you any ideas Potty?

Rowena

Not sure of that William was married to Fanny Swain and hat Stanley Brewerton as a son. Dont know if that helps.

Potty

Potty Report 24 Feb 2008 16:47

Germaine

Germaine Report 24 Feb 2008 16:45

Rowena

Rowena Report 24 Feb 2008 16:40

From an email from David:-

Emma apparently remarried in 1901 (Q March North Bierley Vol 9b Page 229. William was living with his maternal Grandmother in the 1901 Census.

Potty

Potty Report 24 Feb 2008 16:38

Well, here his William's birth:
Births Mar 1890 (>99%)
Brewerton William Edgar Bradford, Y 9b 27

Can't find Emma in 1901 under either of the names in the 1901 marriage or Hesling. There is an Emma Brewerton of the right age, born Huddersfield married to an Arthur (one of the possibles from the 1901 marriage) but they are together in 1891

Rowena

Rowena Report 24 Feb 2008 16:34

We were not given that info but he was Born William Edgar Brewerton on 11 Dec 1889 that is all we know

Rowena Report 24 Feb 2008 16:17

But William married a Fanny Smith from the family tree I have being given. Thomas married Annie

Germaine

Germaine Report 24 Feb 2008 16:17

Yes Rowena it looks that way. Perhaps the Brewertons didn't want the kids as their son had died so wanted no more to do with the family could be they didn't agree with her remarrying.
