Would someone kindly look up 1901 census please.
Elizabeth Whapham was born 1886 Limehouse Stepney.
According to census records she is shown in Surrey.
On GR her birth place isnt shown. The famly seems to have divided and I would very much like to know where she is living and who with.

Hi Ruth and Caz,
Thank you very much for finding Elizabeth. For some reason for which I am not going to be able to find out is this family is living apart!

1891 census shows all the family together, 1901 census shows that
one daughter is at an all girls school in Surrey, one daughter is a visitor to a family in Chiswick and the other daughter I cannot trace! The mother, Mary Ann is living in Bromley Poplar and apparently working as a scrubber in a sick asylum, is a widow but cannot find any death of her husband Henry on Freebmd!

Could this be Alice in 1901 in Ratcliff House. If it's her, she's been enumerated as Alice Whapland? I cannot find any reference anywhere for the surname Whapland ........it doesn't seem to exist.

I certainly think Alice Whapland is 'my Alice'. Her aunt's birth certificate is Wapping so I guessed the surname wouldn't be Whapham when I couldn't find her. There is no way I would have looked for Whapland!

Thank you also for looking up Elizabeth in 1911, I had a note on that thinking it could be her . I also saw the re-marriage of Mary Ann so my jig-saw is almost complete.

Only Henry's death to find now, wonder what they had written for him?

Have you found henry on any other censuses at all?


I can only find him on the 1891, and on freebmd with his marriage registration in June 1885 to Mary Anne!

I have tried Henry Whapham, Henry Whaph*, Whapham, Whaph* ..... with and without 1863 +/- 5 years (the birth year shown on the 1891).

There is a death for a Harry Whapham in 1899 ....... but he's 62, and Henry should be only about 40 or so, if the birth year on the 1891 is correct.

My apologies, I have just seen that you added to this thread!!!

I could not find Henry other than his marriage and being on the 1891 census with his family. He has just vanished, how strange!
