Naval Death

Could someone who has access to Naval records please see if they can find a death for James Duncan Kerr. I know he was born in West Lothian, Scotland around 1825/6. He married Jessie Hamilton. I have found Jessie on 1851 census, no James. Their children are on 1861 census with an aunty. Not been able to find him on any census. I know Jessie remarried a Robert Young. I have looked on Scotlands People for his death but nothing that fits. On Jessie's death cert. it says James was a sea captain. Just wondered if he died at sea.
Many thanks, Hilary.

If he was in the Royal Navy you could check The National Archives site. If his record is there it will cost you £3.50 to download.

I think otherwise it might mean a visit to Kew.

Thanks Jill, not sure what he was in, just know he was a seaman. Will have a look on National archives site.
