Margaret,

It's worth adding these names to your tree in case a relative spots them. They might know something about Ada.

I don't know what the A stands for, was told it could be Albert So more than likely it could be Alfred ?
I know Rachel was born 04.03.1916 I have made contact with Rachel's daughter, Unfortunately Sarah Jane Thurlby ( our Grandmother ) died in 1933 when Rachel was 16 and Rachel's daughter was born 1951 she has no knowledge of John only that her mum said he went missing around the time of his mother;s death.

Margaret.
You should have added to this thread your request to find if your mother Ada May Powell nee Alderson remarried after leaving her husband in 1940.

Other members on the other thread are now giving census info you already have.
Keep to the one thread and just change the title to include ( still looking )

Thanks for that quinsgran

I am still looking, and am very grateful for all your advice
I don't think my parents were divorced. I know so little about my mother.
My father died 1950 and all hopes of ever finding answers to our questions
died with him.
How does one begin to find out if Ada May Powell remarried ? ladies change their names. I am still looking- if anyone else can shed any lights ????????

It does, doesn't it. I've sent Margaret a pm to come back and be further overwhelmed. Also a pm with two possible half-siblings who are likely still alive.

hello Meg
Happy to be back........ fill me in I don't know what pm means ?
I have found today .Sarah Jane and Thomas Thurlby's children were baptised at Dawson Street-Primitive Methodist Chapel-Crook-Co Durham.
22-3-1916 Rachel d/o Joseph and Sarah Thurlby Grey Street-Crook-Miner
22-12-1917 John Alfred s/o Joseph and Sarah Jane Thurlby of Flag Row-Sunniside-Miner.
I have traced Rachel but I was too late she died 2002- Rachel had one daughter- but she was born 1951- and apart from remembering her mother speaking of Ada May-she could not help me in my search, her mother and Ada May did not keep in touch after their mother died in 1933
John and Rachel lost touch when their Mother died and no contact has been made since. One foot foreward two back.
The Blackpool registration looks promising.
Thanks again

Margaret, there will be two or three messages from me in your personal email inbox.

I'm a bit disappointed in your remark "The Blackpool registration looks promising". I think you have missed the point. I have just mapped out the rest of your mother's life for you.

Your mother, Ada May Alderson, by marriage became Ada May Powell. She married Fred Barker in Wetherby in 1942, and may have had two children with him. She then married John A Jones in Blackpool in 1952, clearly her, with both her maiden name and one previously married name given. There is no doubt about it.

And she died in Blackpool in 2002.

Her date of birth was given as 17 July 2010.

We all know that is only as accurate as known by the person giving the information.

I expected fireworks after all that effort.

Meg

I think Margaret needs to get the 1952 marriage with both names Barker and Alderson to see if Adas age matches and also if her fathers name is the same
