The link opened up my 'sent messages' fine :-S

Using the link from the email, I had to sign in the first time the Beta site was visited today, but not the second - although I had closed the window, I hadn't logged out.

Joy Report 23 Jul 2012 21:10

In the beta version, interestingly I did not have to put the password nor sign in this evening.

Didn't have to do the cache thing, the colours are better than before.

Error - http://beta.genesreunited.co.uk/messages/sent - still.

Better - less harsh on the eyes, but could be 'kinder'

'The row hovered over will highlight in a soft shade of green' helps to seperate the different threads.

Are you going to do anything about the Hotmatch coding? The Home page still shows I have X new hotmatches when I haven't.

Thank goodness the 'discussion' box on the Home page has gone
EDIT - scrub that, it's still there.

When will the rest of us get access please Phil again???

philmoir Report 23 Jul 2012 20:17

We have just released updates to the beta version of Genes with the following changes included:

You MUST clear cache for these changes to take affect. To do this (for most browsers) press CTRL+SHIFT+Delete together (all three buttons) and select Empty cache or Delete cache option.

= First off, we have made the background colour on boards and messages and a few other places a very slight shade of grey to take away the starkness of the white. We have increased the outside body background grey a little bit more too.

= We have increased the font size on boards a little too.

= On tabular data, such as the boards summary, results, messages, the row hovered over will highlight in a soft shade of green.

= We have also fixed a few bugs, but if you spot anything else, please tell us.

= The tree has NOT changed. It was momentarily down after I made this release, but it has now been restored.

PLEASE let us know if the colour changes help.
:-)

The new tree is not working for me.

Yesterday I added a spouse to one of the existing names, then added her parents.

She is now there TWICE. The man has two wives, same name, one has the extra details like middle name and full dob etc

I have more names, but I'm not going to add them until the tree is working properly.

I have sent an email to GR, and posted the email on the suggestions board.

Thanks Phil for the instructions on how to upload photo's.

Unfortunately it doesn't work for me but I have sent feedback to GR about the problem.

Haven't yet given the makeover a second look, but will ......... and will have a note of things to look for.

but,

Phil .......... is there any reason why theteam email address will not work?

I can't do it through the contact address in the email or through the site because of the problem you know about

But then gmail told me that [email protected] AND [email protected] were both invalid addresses for GR

That does work Phil, I tried it yesterday...I'm missing the frames though they added a nice little touch :-(

(not really the right thread - but to upload photo)....
Go to right hand side panel for person selected, click "Photos". Click "Upload". Click "Add Photo". Select photo(s) from window that opens. Click "Upload" again. Job done. That should work.

Ok i'm the first to admit that I haven't spotted the change in the logo.

Phil, I would like to know how to upload photo's to my tree as I have been playing with the new tree and can't seem to get the function to work.

thanks

Thank you, Phil.

It would have helped if whoever composed the email had told readers what changes had happened so we would know what to look at specifically :)

I shall look again later.

philmoir Report 21 Jul 2012 10:30

Glad to hear people are going to take deeper look. Some more things that have been changed (that I have now remembered are:

= the logo, have you spotted the change :-)

= the main menu navigation at the top used to have the main item as a link, and if you clicked to open up the drop down menu, it would navigate you away. Personally I found this quite annoying especially on mobile devices, and also quite disheartening to watch members struggle with it at FH events . Now (with the exception of the Home item) if you click the drop down menu of options will appear and you can then use this to navigate.

= we have also reviewed and housecleaned ALL the code that sits behind the pages for performance improvement and bug eradication. Not something that is directly visible on screen, but all in an effort to minimise the load time of pages.

We are closely watching for any bugs getting reported in the database, but feel free to pass on to the "TheTeam" email any bugs you come across.

Thanks
Phil

I thought I would try some things that I wouldn't normally use on GR to see how perhaps new members could cope.

Can't try the beta here today as I have left my login details at home!! I'll try it tomorrow when I'm here

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 21 Jul 2012 07:11

Patricia

I understand nothing has been done to the records, so you may not find a real difference between the two

and nothing has been done to the new tree that so many people are having problems with

The old tree has been removed.

Apart from the first go on the Beta version the other afternoon I haven't had a chance to go on again but I'll be able to try it out later today and tomorrow. Although if I get a chance I'll have a go on this pc at work as when I tried on my laptop i wasn't getting this bright white screen everyone else seems to be getting.

My oh says he'll colour calibrate the pc today as I plan to put both the normal GR site and the Beta on the pc monitor side by side to compare. Although he is colour blind when doing this it doesn't use colours only black, white and grey! Please remember when websites are designed they do have to take into account certain things [by law] colour blindess is one so they can't use some colours, or shades of.

I am wondering if some have thier brightness setting too high, I share my work pc and one guy here has it on the brightest setting [100%] where I have it on about 50%, just a thought.........

I have a few credits so will try the records etc. And I'll start a small tree on here to see if that works [took mine off some months back]. And I'll try anything else I can think of as I normally only use GR for the message boards.

Gai Report 21 Jul 2012 06:24

Sylvia,

I'll keep my fingers crossed that it works for you.

The last time I tried to send an email from my normal ISP was in May so the fix is only recent. Maybe whatever Phil did to fix Jeremy's problem also fixed ours as well.

:-)

that's great, Gai!

I haven't tested mine yet.
