Is there a Scottish equivalent of FreeBMD? If not, can someone tell me where I can get information from? Bob

Civil registration in Scotland started in 1855.

The site you would need is
http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/welcome.aspx

It's pay to view, but you can down load the relevant certificates.

https://www.familysearch.org/ holds a number of church records, and the census are transcribed on Ancestry. The images can be viewed on Scotlandspeople for a fee.

Good idea. I am looking for a mariage of Frederick James Cain to Helen. She may have had two previous husbands, as Frederick is shown in the 1930 USA census as having stepsons with surnames King and Renny. The marriage would have been prior to 1923, the year he emigrated, and after 1911, when he was still with his first wife, (or partner, I can't find a marriage there either). The marriage to Helen was probably in the Edinborough area. Good hunting. Bob

Bob..A quick search through the Ellis Island data base shows Fred.arrived in NY 3 Sept.1923...He was going to his Sister in Law Miss Mary King..East Ave NY.
NOK given as wife Mrs H.Cain....55 Gallowgate ABerdeen
His last place of res.given as Slough Bucks...
I would be looking at Aberdeen for a marriage given Helen was living there....
His address for Bucks could be where he was working at the time (He travelled out of S.Hampton.

Bob...I would suggest that Charles Rennie/Renny husband to Helen was probably a casualty of WW1 there are no Charles Renny listed on CWGC site but a Number of Rennies...there are 3 possibilities but unfortunately dont give any "addition info." they are those in the Scottish Reg.the others are doubtful due to age Reg.and additional info.given.
The King's have me a bit bamboozled....if Helen was a King by birth and everthing so far points to that then unless she married a King/had children prior to her marriage to CR/I would suggest its a transcription error on the Census.and they are her brothers..

As far as you can go on this one? £7.00 will buy you 30 credits for Scotlandspeople which with a bit of care will let you view 5 registrations which can be any combination of birth, marriage, death or census.
