John Earle - Tasmania

ProfilePosted byOptionsPost Date

cookie4416 Report 8 Mar 2013 06:03

Looking for John Earle that fathered two children with Ada Rebecca Remington.

He died at Campbell Town in Tasmania 1894 aged 40 years.

cookie4416 Report 8 Mar 2013 06:05

I have been unable to find his birth so dont know if he was born in Australia or arrived by ship.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 8 Mar 2013 11:08

A tree on Ancestry has him born in Sweden. The tree owner has used another tree as their source :-(

cookie4416 Report 8 Mar 2013 11:32

Thank you - I will have a look - Thanks again

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 8 Mar 2013 11:38

With no proper sources or records attached, it's a bit of a long shot!

Do you have his DC? Are parent's names listed on that?

cookie4416 Report 9 Mar 2013 07:36

No I do not have a death certificate at the moment but will see if I am able to find one.

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 9 Mar 2013 09:50

Death entry in case you need it

Australia Death Index, 1787-1985

Death Date: 14 Oct 1894
Death Place: Tasmania
Age: 40
Registration Year: 1894
Registration Place: Campbell Town, Tasmania
Registration number: 84
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1854

Digging down, it may not be worth the expense
Deaths 1840 - 1890's give

registration number

given name/s
cause of death (medical attendant included from the late 1880's)
date of registration

Later in the 1890's some records show where the person died. From 1897 the birth place of the deceased is included. By 1908 the name of spouse (or parents if single) is included. In 1914 age at marriage and issue of the marriage is included.

cookie4416 Report 10 Mar 2013 01:35

Thank you for the information.

Do you think it would be worth my while to get a death certificate ?

I have no idea where he came from or who his parents here.

I do remember as a child that my father ( he married one of his granddaughters ) that he was Jewish.

I have had a look around but found nothing.

Thanks again

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 10 Mar 2013 08:59

If the information about what is included on the DC is correct, it wouldn't be worth purchasing it *just* to find out what his father's name was at it would probably be too early for that to be included. Mind you, the information given is only as good as the informant's knowledge. As he is a direct line ancestor, it might be satifying just to have a copy for your own research.

You mentioned that you believed he has Jewish.
Have you tried tracking down his place of burial, and the burial register? If he was buried in a Jewish Cemetery or section, there might (and I stress only might) be additional information on that.

One of my lot who emmigrated to Sydney and died 1913 have been recorded with their Hebrew names and that of their father eg

Hebrew Name - Yaacov ben Rav Joseph
'ben' being the son of, in this case the Honorable Jospeh (Cantor)

See if there is a Jewish Burial Society in Campbell Town district by doing an internet search, or look for on-line historical general cemeteries.

The closest Hebrew version I can find for 'John' is Johnny = Yochanan.
Someone else might have a better alternative.

Did he ever marry Ada Rebecca Remington?Even If you can track down the MC , that won't help.
Details on certificate
Marriages 1840 - 1895

registration number
date of marriage
place of marriage
given name/s and surname
signature and description of both parties
name of clergyman or Minister who performed the ceremony
date of registration
signature of registrar
names of witnesses to marriage
denomination of church

Unless someone else can look at this with a fresh pair of eyes, his parents might be your brick wall! Really sorry

cookie4416 Report 11 Mar 2013 06:48

I have not been able to find a marriage certificate for them.

On Ada"s death certificate ( she remarried after Earle's death to a Carl Carlson )

On her death certificate it said she had three children.

2 living - 1 deceased

The two living was Richard and Albert ( my grandfather.)

( He took the Carlson surname as he was only a babe when Earle died but on his marriage certificate it says he was Earle known as Carlson.

The third one I have been unable to find.

cookie4416 Report 20 Nov 2014 07:46

I have now found the the third boy who would have been the eldest.

His father was John Branaghan - and he died when he was 6 before she meet Earl
