There's only one way to confirm it, the Death Certificate.

Possibles could be

Deaths Mar 1852 (>99%)
Murphy Mary Marylebone 1a 345
MURPHY Mary St Giles 1b *

Deaths Jun 1852 (>99%)
Murphy Mary Marylebone 1a 271

Thanks +++DetEcTive+++

The first one looks the most likely, as Paul Street is not far from her 1851 address. It's just over the other side of Holborn, near to the British Museum.

Of course it's possible that Mary and her husband emigrated. She had already travelled the world with her first husband.

For your interest, in 1845 she was returning home with her children as one of two female paying passengers on a cargo ship when the captain went berserk and attacked his crew with a cutlass and bayonet. She appeared as a prosecution witness in his trial, which was a headline-grabber across the world.

Thanks both. I already know that in 1851 Mary was living with her tailor husband Thomas and 12-year old daughter in Duke Street St Giles. She may have moved elsewhere in London after that. I was specifically looking for her death between then and her daughter's wedding in 1858. I don't have an Ancestry subscription but I was able to see in the index that there are five people fitting the description who died in London in 1851, 1852 and three in 1855.

To repeat, the search is...

London, England, Deaths and Burials, 1813-1980:

Mary Murphy born 1813 (+/- 5 yrs) died 1856 (+/- 5 yrs).

Many thanks.

Paul,

I found the Mary murphy below on the 1851 census. She is unmarried and living in Church lane.

The are two other Mary Murphy's in the St Giles area and one is a widow and the other is with her husband.

I'm sure someone who is better at research than me might have better luck if this is the wrong Mary.

This will be a long shot...

London, England, Deaths and Burials, 1813-1980:

Mary Murphy born 1813 (+/- 5 yrs) died 1856 (+/- 5 yrs).

I'm hoping to find her in the St Giles area - either Duke Street or Vere Street.

Please make my Easter wish come true! ;-)
