I find that comment insulting to members and not just the unnamed,

So the insults never stop

I do hope GR get a grip of these comments, you constantly post abuse about other members, Unnamed or not and it is ruining the site for all

I use Copy and paste to quote, this is normal on many forums and some even have the facility of a quote option to aid members, The Aim of a quote is to clarify what and who you are replying too,

Nothing to do with points or disgracing somebody.

As I said on my other post 15 Jul 2013 13:37

Copy and paste is just that, in this case it is quoting the very words posted by the author, If the author is not comfortable with having their own words posted back to them as a quote, Then the author should not post the words in the first place.

Hi Roy

Yes - so it is a threat! Isn't that against T & C??????

Natasha - thank you for clarifying re copy/pasting.

CupCakes - for clarity, as you have posted several times, I have copy/pasted the post of yours to which I am about to refer -

Quote: "unnamed persons who are all xxxxx at the mo blowing their own trumpet".

I expect it is just the hot weather addling my brain, but I just cannot work out what the xxxxxs stand for. "Kisses" wouldn't make sense, so I wonder if you would mind explaining it to me? Thank you.

Nothing specific at the mo but there is always somebody ready to burst a bubble.

Our Roy seems to be on a roll at the mo - he obviously has loads to say. ;-) <3

I know that I don´t always catch on as quickly as I might, but please can someone explain what the problem is with copy & paste?
Surely you can only copy & paste something that has already been written. :-S

Cupcakes - re your post "Nothing specific at the mo but there is always somebody ready to burst a bubble."

Ah - I'm with you! The xxxxs are to reserve a space in a sentence for when a suitable word becomes available/necessary?

Test - What a xxxxx idea! ;-)

Thank you for explaining.

wisechild, You are correct, But some members appear to be offended by their own written words whilst claiming the same is not offensive to others

Hypocrisy of the highest order

Problem with putting something in writing is that you can´t deny it at a later date.

I was advised by GR that re-posting text copied from postings made by other members is in contravention of one of the guideline for message board use, that is, "please do not submit the same or similar material more than once."

IGP

"please do not submit the same or similar material more than once."

relates to starting another thread about the same person/family

Porkie_Pie

Porkie_Pie Report 15 Jul 2013 16:55

IGP, Was you realy advised by GR or is your understanding just your interpretation of the T&C's?

GR community boards would never have taken off it that was the case,

No point in having Community boards on a genealogy site if you cannot copy and paste info found

Its just simple common sense

IGP ................

Have you not read Natasha's post on the previous page???

Community Advisor Report 15 Jul 2013 12:41

Hi everyone,
I just want to clarify about coping and pasting. It is absolutely fine to copy something you see on another thread. We realise that this could be useful information to another member. However, we don't think it is appropriate to copy and paste the contents of private messages.
Natasha

-----------------------

She has clarified that it is indeed "absolutely fine" to c&p something from another thread.

If you did NOT read it, then perhaps you should make sure that you have read all previous posts before posting your own comments.

If you DID read it, then it sounds very much as if you are contradicting Natasha, and saying she is wrong.
