The easiest and cheapest way to buy a cert is from the GRO - their online service is secure.

From the GRO the cost is £9.25 all in (takes around 7 days - often less, but when Who Do You Think You Are is on can take longer as more people decide to start their own research having seen this programme)

From Local Registration Offices - £9.25-£9.50 plus P & P.. (can take up to 7 days)

NEVER buy from anywhere other than these two places. All others just act as middlemen and charge for their services, some as much as £25.00 plus the price of the certificate.

I wasn't suggesting that Lynne got her cert from Bham registry office, though she could if she wanted to as it is operating normally.
I was responding to her question about finding the date of death.
Normally it is possible to look in newspaper archives but as these would be at the central library they are temporarily unavailable.
Not entirely sure why you are repeating all info & advice already given!

GRO holds all Births marriages and death records and our passport office

so as Birmingham is closed go to GRO its very safe

The death certificate will give

who died when possible where
who was giving the info to the regesrty office
and that MAY give a clue to who he had around him ....posible a new wife or even a child

There are only 2 ways. One is to get the death cert. The other is to see if there is a newspaper announcement.
However, I am not sure you will find the newspapers for this time online, and unfortunately B'ham archives are closed until September, when the new library opens.

All the info you need is provided in what I have put above.

Assuming the informant knew it, his place of birth will be given. In addition there will be his address, and the name & address of the informant, plus their relationship to him.

I must sound so clueless how would I find the cert

The only possible marriage I can see in the area is in Bromsgrove 1962. Would this fit in any way?

Might it be worth getting the death cert? Obviously impossible to say for definite if it is the right person, but there will be useful info on there which might help you track down his family, if only to exclude him.

Hello his name is ken kitson.. he wasn't married to my grandmother. Approx year of birth is 1927. He was ten years older than my grandmother and she was 78 this year.
My mom is from birmingham and was born april 1953. The only other info we have is that he was said to have married another woman who already had 2 girls and never had any more children. Also that he ran a pub. This is everything we know.my grandmother isn't very forthcoming with info.

I am trying to locate my moms father. All we know about him is his name and an estimate of his birth year. And some slight family history about what happened in his life after my mom was born.
