I think you are right Joonie. The credits were just too expensive. I bought the five household bundle when it was half price but that is all.

To be honest most of the people I would have been interested in were either already dead by 1939 or the ones that are still alive would be under 100 years old an therefore closed anyway, so I don't know how useful the records are to me.

However since I have a subscription I might just try to find more extended family just out of interest.

I am now being glad I didn't pay to access anything :-)

I figured they might not be making a tonne of money on that arrangement

Everybody hurried to access the one or two records they might be eager to see, and then there was a bit of a sharp drop-off in purchases, I would expect!

Initial thoughts are that there are 2 men of the same name. If not that then may be he still had a good relationship with wife # 1 and spent time with both his families.

Angela, thank you for that, I took advantage of the offer but now I am completely puzzled.
I was looking for my grandfather. He had deserted his first family in Oldham and married my grandmother in Essex in 1918. The 1939 register showed him as living with his first wife in Oldham. his trade being the same as that in 1911 census and he was shown as being an ARP warden. He died in Essex in 1946 so what was he doing there ?

I then looked for my nan and found her living in the same cottage where my father was born. also on the record was her husband but without his middle name and now pusuing a different trade.

How can he appear on two different records at the same time ?
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

Maddie

Reading down Kense’s link (and for 28 million read 2.8 million) it seems that there are still many records yet to be made available.

“In addition, we're opening the records of those who pass the 100 years and a day threshold on a weekly basis, at a rate of around 30,000 per month. We'll be opening more records every week, so check back often!”

So maybe wait awhile?

If you couldn't find someone when the 1939 register became available it may be worth trying again.

I've just used the latest offer to see why Mum seemed to on her own and not at home - she was in the ATS barracks. Well she did always say she joined up straight away.

I had a lot of trouble getting it done but got there in the end.

I've seen posts were people haven't been able to use the discount code for the 5 households.

Maybe FMP have fixed the issue as I've just used my code without a problem.

Well I've been out all day so haven't had time to complain to FMP about the failed offer code. Like everyone else, I'm not bothered about it as I know where most of my family were in 1939 - apart from one of my Great Aunts. I guess she can wait till the price comes down in a few years time. Looks like FMP haven't got many people buying the 1939 recorods - which is not surprising is it!

Inky1

Inky1 Report 20 Nov 2015 21:56

I too have received the offer. But as I am with FMP.com it is priced in dollars. However, no problem - I will not be bothering. Like others, I think that I know all that I want to know about what my family were doing and where they were in 1939.

Do you have English or Welsh heritage? If you do, you can unlock your family's household in the 1939 Register for just $6.29 with your exclusive code below (just for you lovely subscribers) - that’s over 40% off the usual price of $10.95.

KathleenBell Report 20 Nov 2015 16:46

I got the email yesterday about the offer. I haven't tried to use the code yet but I may think about it and see if there is a household I'd like to see.

I think they may have sent out the offer because so few subscribers are prepared to pay what they are asking for the 1939 register.

Hi Joan and Elizabeth,
I must admit I'm not happy with FMP either, about the way they've done things with the 1939 set up, and I've also got a subscription with them.
I didnt intend to buy any credits for the 1939, but was tempted with this special offer to see who one of my Great Aunts was living with. Now I find that even the code won't work! I'll be writing to them today to complain about it.

Jan. Report 19 Nov 2015 23:13

Has anyone else got an email from FMP today saying Your exclusive £3.99 offer for the 1939 Register is inside?

I got one today and this is what it says:-

For one week only, you can unlock your family's household in the 1939 Register for just £3.99 with your exclusive code below (just for you lovely subscribers) - that’s over 40% off the usual price of £6.95

I put in the code and it came up with Discount code is no longer valid.

Has anyone else got the emal and did your code work?

This is an interesting response email to a query re address not showing

" " the error appears to be that the household was never transcribed with a street name. This is why it won't show up on the search for address, but will appear on the search for name.
This is an issue that our technical team is aware of, and is something we are working to remedy. Due to the bulk of transcription errors and evidence of death requests, I cannot guarantee a point of time when this will be completed,"

( being picky but why not just say 'date' instead of "point of time" lol..or maybe they feel "point of time" gives them much more leeway...to infinity and beyond! ;-) )

Janet Report 19 Nov 2015 08:27

I got a confirmation e mail yesterday after the event but I did get one !

He still doesn't come up on a search, or the transcription, so other than me not sure anyone else would know he was there

So if they don't tell the informant that a record has been opened then they certainly won't tell anyone else who has paid to view that household.
