That's interesting. since I first looked both the 'other' people on two records have appeared, eg when I looked at the record on Monday for Daniel J it said 'One other person' today it has her name, actually Florence.

"Search tip for the 1939 National Register
For those venturing into the England and Wales 1939 National Register, which was released on Monday (see blogpost), here's a handy free tip that might help you to assemble details of a household and/or street.

Preview page: TNA reference is circled in red
From the dedicated 1939 Register search page, perform a normal name search. Select your entry of interest from the results page and click for the Preview. On the Preview page, you'll be given further information about the household, the number of people in it whose details would be provided by a paid search, and the number of people in the household whose details are officially closed ie 'locked'.

Beneath these details is the 4-part TNA reference.

1. Ignore the RG number
2. Keep the next number and letter
3. Keep the next number
4. Ignore the last number

Now go back to the Register search page and select the Advanced Search option. On the Advanced Search page, scroll down to the last fields. Enter the second segment of the TNA reference as the Piece number. Enter the third segment as the Item number.

From the results page you will now be able to view the names and years of birth of the neighbours and all family members whose records are open.What you'll miss by choosing this search method is the occupation of the individuals and their address. This may or may not be important to your research."

if I can ask a stupid question

which of the RGxxxxx string of numbers is the piece number and which is the item number?

I can never remember and I never need it for searching censuses...

all I have had so far is confirmation that theyve received my request and that I will not have to pay again , it will just be opened

As you know I had problems trying to search for specific addresses yesterday.

That said, could someone send me info (from a free search) for 19 Church St Dronfield, Derbyshire

My ancestor died there in 1935 so of course he won't show but I want to know who was there in 1939

Added: In 1911 it was known as 'The Red House'

Found the info looking at the history of the house. Joseph Fisher was there in 1939

Does anyone know what happens if you have paid for a household that has officially closed records that are subsequently opened?

Do you get access to the opened records?

Are you informed that they have been opened?

I wasn't too enthusiastic about he register as I didn't expect it to tell me much. However, after using the search there were a number of questions I needed to answer. So got a five household bundle with my discount code and filled in a few addresses and dates, but didn't find out anything earth shattering.

My grandparents also lived at the dairy they managed and they did show up in the search.

I don't think I will get any more credits unless the price comes down considerably.

That may be why my grandparents don't come up - they lived at their Dairy.
For their road, even though their property did have a number, there are quite a few entries as -

They could all be work/home properties.

I cant find this one either: Joseph Whiteley DOB 25 Oct 1897 Sheffield

He could have been in a mental institution in either Sheffield or Upper Agbrigg (died in Upper Agbrigg in 1941, mental institution)

Zilch, nada or as they up here, nowt!

If it's any consolation Gins, I can find my other grandfather with the name search, but even knowing exactly where they lived the address doesn't come up on the address search thought the street itself does. I think it might be because it was a flat above the bank.
