That shouldn't make any difference. You should still get the same results.

On the address search try putting Westmoreland Street in the street name and West Hartlepool in the Borough/District box and see what comes up. This is my mother's street.

I must be doing something wrong or is it because I don't sub to FMP, I have just bought some credits for 1939?

What street are you looking for Gins? I've just tried on my mother's address at the time just putting in the street name and town and when the results come up it gives you all the streets of that name in all towns. You then pick off the town you want and click on "addresses" on the right hand side and then all the houses come up with the house numbers on the left of the screen in the first column.

I have just tried the preview but I cant see a house number :-S

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 4 Nov 2015 13:32

You need to find the street, then click on each house number in turn.

You may find that only the lead name is listed - eg Osbourne - but it does mean you can then re-search with the name you want adding 'living with' the named person or surname.

It doesn't always work, but worth trying. Its a simliar work around as we did with the 1911 when it first came out.
.........

How do you enter the page reference numbers? I tried, but came up with an Error. Might be FMP rather than me!

eg the named person was Bessie L Allen RG101/1788E/010/10.
I've worked out she was living with George J Allen, but not by using a number.
..............

Going shopping, I think ;-)

Gins if you put in the street address and go to the preview you can see the house numbers, they aren't nec' in numerical order though.

Amongst some bumf I've been reading, it says that you can search the register by address

I've had a look and there is a section to add the street name but no section for the house number

Anyone got any ideas?

I must admit I thought the cost for the records was way too high, but decided to buy a 5 household bundle even though I didn't think it would tell me much that I didn't already know.

However yesterday I used my last credit to open my mother-in-law's record and found her a long way from home in Trowbridge (I knew she had been down south working in a gas mask factory), but what I wasn't expecting was that it gave an update on her record giving what appeared to be a date and mention of the London Gazette (abbreviated to LON : GAZ)

With the help of MarieCeleste and DeTecTive I managed to get the image telling me that my mother-in-law changed her name by deed poll through a solicitor to my father-in-law's surname. We knew after many years of searching that they hadn't married because he was already married in the 1920's and couldn't get a divorce, but this at least gave us a date when she changed her name. It was just 5 days before her first child was born and the 1939 register was updated just the day before he was born - which meant she could legitimately register him in his father's surname.

My husband feels the money spent was well worth it to solve the mystery when she changed her name.

Well

Took another look for my mum but didn't put her birth year in and bingo it came up .silly thing is it shows her birth year of 1909 which was what I used on the initial search plus the new one that came up shows her second Christian names even though I only searched on her first Christian name

Seems very hit and miss and found grandma the same way ie without her birth year

Certainly won't pay the exorbitant charge to view any of the household info

I have some credits but only researched one person who is in the asylum she died in many years later.

Before trying to find more, if a person was born just after the 1939 registration I presume they would be added to the household then if they died before 1990 or when it was last updated would their entry be available to look at.

Incidentally I have tried looking for several people I knew were alive and some addresses but they do not seem to be there suppose I will have to keep searching

Just in case it helps anyone to know whats on it, I paid for a 5 household bundle with my 25% discount as I currently have a FMP subs, cost me about £18 odd

I have found out that one great uncle was an ARP warden in Wales, another had by then left the navy and become a postman.

That my grandparents' neighbours in 1939 were still the same ones I remembered as a kid in the late 50's early 60's ! That my grandad didn't know which year he was born in (I have his birth cert) he was one year out........

My other nan was a military equipment machinist.

and it has confirmed prevoius addresses and given more up to date occupations for some of them

as previously mentioned there is a link to a map to show where they lived and other bits and bobs

Eureka!
Finally found my GGF and second wife.
First names and YOB's correct.

Surname should be Holtom - transcribed as Hollon.
And GGF's middle initial given as F instead of T.

But that seems almost accurate, compared with examples of mistranscription some people have given!

At least it's helping to keep the Postmen employed ;-)

I can see where some of the revenue is being spent.

In the collection of 'junk' mail with the letters this morning was a postcard. On the front was a picture of our town market place and on the reverse information about the population, notable professions, top male occupation - general labourer and ... top female occupation - unpaid domestic duties.

If they have sent to every household around the country the cost must have been high!

Also the road where my Fathers parents lived and I lived is not there either.

Oh really ?

I had to search carefully to find some of my own relatives not always correct dates of birth on this ...... I have the birth cert for a great uncle so I know the correct year was 1890 on here it says 1889 (maybe he didnt even know himself !!) play around with the names dates etc

who are you looking for ??

Fendweller

Fendweller Report 2 Nov 2015 18:05

Re my earlier post

I have just noticed that 1893 is 1938 jumbled up! This probably explains why my sister has appeared on the register.
