Unless the lady knows differently, she may have to consider that he was a casualty in WW2. Chauffeurs weren't usually considered as reserved occupations.

PM from David - have asked him to reply on thread and to put photo in keepsafe open to view and maybe take the "believed to be around 20" with a pinch of salt.

Hi thanks for your reply. Very little to go on. My wife is pursuing this for an elderly lady in our village; she's 86 and so we only have her recollections to work on. We thought the same as you re: Jack being a nickname and the surname being Lock or Locke. However, we know for certain that the attached photo was taken in 1931 when the subject was believed to be about 20 yrs old hence the estimated dob. Regards, Dave

David - it might help us if you could explain how you came by his name. Was he presumed to be the father of a child out of wedlock?

In 1939, the only Jack Locke (with that exact spelling), born 1911+/-2, is in Ealing, born 1913.
He's not a chauffeur, though I don't have credits to see what he actually was.

He'll be the Jack Locke born Brentford 1913, who married in Brentford in 1941.

Assuming Jack Locke to be his actual name -

you can discount the Jack Thomas Locke born in Tendring , Essex in 1907, because he emigrated to Canada with his family before 1911.

perhaps someone can find him in 1939 reg he may still be a chauffeur

Welcome to the boards David.

Including John and Jack and those with another initial there are around 20 John Locke's born 1911+/- 2 years. You also have to remember Jack could have been a nickname. More if you spell the name as Lock.

And he may or may not have been from the area to start with.

You can use the site below for free to have look yourself.

Do you know anything more about him at all?

How sure of his name and spellings are you? How sure that he was born c1911?

Trying to find any info about a Jack Locke possibly born as John c1911. Worked as a chauffeur at Thrigby Hall in Norfolk in the late 1920's/early 1930's
