can anyone tell me if I can look up workhouse records to see how long a person was in there I no that this person died in there but would like to no how long they had been there and why thanks

On the description page, usually towards the bottom, it'll tell you where any surviving records are held. Some of the Admissions & Discharge registers are on Ancestry.

They will tell you when they entered the Workhouse. Many people sought medical attention in the Infirmary as these were the for-runners of the NHS.
You'd probably need to contact the relevant holding archives to ask if full records survive.
