Maureen Report 8 Nov 2017 21:29

I am looking to locate a John William Devany and parents in the census records.

I have birth cert shows John William b 11 July 1869 in Bradford Yorkshire, his parents are listed as James Devany and Ann Waters. I cant locate a marriage for the couple so unsure where they married, James occupation is given as Excavator.

I cant see any family in 1871 or 1881 census, by 1891 John William Devany was living in Ashton in Makerfield Lancashire, he married into the family he is listed living with. I have all the information going onwards for him, only looking for his parents or siblings.

Thank you

Although the birth place does not match Bradford for John William, this looks like the family in 1871. The birth of daughter Mary Ellen matches with her mothers maiden name

Thank you all for your replies.

I will have to go through the records you find.

The Birth Cert for JOHN WILLIAM DEVANY shows he was born 11th July 1869,

Superintendent Registrars District Bradford Yorkshire

Registrars District Bowling

Father is JAMES DEVANY and mother ANN DEVANY formerly Waters, fathers occupation Excavator.

I don't know anything else about John William Devany's family only from his marriage onwards, John William Devany in census records shows born Bradford Yorshire, this was the only John William I could trace in birth records therefore obtained the birth cert.

I was thinking with the name Devany it may have been misspelt but still cant find anything in either census or marriage for a James Devany and Ann Waters.

The above census records show the father as JOHN not James Devany

Thanks for all the information .

The 1881 census look like the right family once you look closely at the surname for Devany.

I see the family of George A Moss and wife Ann with the 3 Devany children in 1891 Westleigh but cant find any of them in 1901 or 1911 can someone please have a look.

Thank you
