Something which I didn't notice last night was on the baptism of Antony Frederic son of Frederick and Rebecca in 1916 , it was an adult baptism, age 20 years, being baptised as a Catholic "from Protestantism".

No sign on FMP of a marriage for Benniah, but that might just be because the records don't go that far.

Wonder why he was 20 when he was baptised ....

Maybe he got ill then pulled through.
Can't understand the so many baby deaths.....really sad xxxx :-(

Rambling

Rambling Report 7 Jan 2018 13:06

Change of religion Serena, he was baptised into the Catholic church aged 20, I would guess that this was possibly because he wanted to marry a Catholic girl , though it could just have been that he felt that was the religious path he wanted to follow :-)

Sadly finding infant deaths is terribly common when searching, all the diseases like TB that we can now treat were killers for adults and children., and in India there would have been other diseases also like malaria. if you're interested in general background, there's this page on health in British India

Benniah and Florence's deaths were close together - both registered in May 1991.

On the Ancestry tree does it mention this marriage? no way of knowing if it might be related though, could be the John father of John who married Sarah Christiana?

Nyx -
no, that marriage isn't on the tree.

It says that the father of John (1820) was another John, but doesn't give his mother's name.

Apparently John 1820 had a sister:

ann lous [Louisa ?? ] gasper
1829–
Birth 1829 • india
Death Unknown
First marriage:
24 December 1841 • Mercara Madras India
Joseph Gunnell

Second marriage:
14 Mar 1844 • India
to Benjamin Lowe . She is aged 15, and he 20, a widow.

Child:

Benjamin Evan Lowe
1846–
Birth 1ST NOVEMBER 1846 • Madras India
Death Unknown
