Gwyn in Kent

Gwyn in Kent Report 15 Apr 2018 21:05

I am watching the recording from The Black Country Museum.
Did anyone else wonder about Catherine Short, who as a child of 12 set a treasure hunt and said her health was poor. ?

Catherine wrote clues on 12th April 1940 and said she lived with her parents and brother at 64 Bullsmore Lane.
A photograph suggested that the brother was possibly a couple of years older than Catherine.

The finder would love to know what became of Catherine, who wrote that the doctor has advised that she moved away, so she was going to stay with an aunt and uncle by the sea.

Anyone with access to 1939 enlighten us?

Parents to that Catherine married in Sunderland, and there are possibly two older brothers born Sunderland.

Father may have remarried in 1943? Sunderland

EDIT maybe not as they seem both to have died in Norfolk?

Thank you for finding all that.

Enfield was the area I kept finding, although from the programme I got the impression it was an event in Black Country or West Midlands.

I can't see the death of Catherine, at a young age, as the clue finder suspected............................

1953, she's still at 577 Field End Road, with Elizabeth and Henry M short - also a Roger Lee.

Still at that address at least until 1963, with Elizabeth and Henry M.

EDIT:

Just noticed Norwich above, where her parents died.

She's on the Norwich ER 2003-10. Unmarried.
Address shown on Ancestry.
Still there, per BT phonebook.
