I did see an Ernest born in Lincs but discounted it because of the distances involved. I should have persisted.
It is also great to have the stories about the family although not uplifting it is good to put some (rabbit) meat on the bones.

Thanks to your help I have been able to find out quite a bit about the Bloomer and Hoffman side of the family. But even with 3 Greens mentioned in the 1939 register I can't find the family in census information. Can anyone please get me started?

There is a Harold Hoffman showing died 18.2.2007, could be 'yours'. Probate June Bristol Registry

Registry used has nothing to do with where died.

Patricia Ernestine Gertrude Hoffman nee Green died in 2000 mid Warwickshire but can’t as yet find a death for Harold Hoffman

I started with Patricia EG Green. I'm guessing E is Eleanor and G is Gertrude after family names. She was born 21 Jan 1930 in I believe Coventry.

The original of the record shows Gertrude's change of name from Green to Hatch being made 21.12.1946 - not necessarily the date of the change, but rather the date the change was made on the register
