If you're quite sure you don't want any more help with this thread, click "Mark this as answered" at the top of one of your posts.

EDIT:
No, that doesn't apply to a thread on "Genealogy Chat" - it does on "Find Ancestors".
You can't mark it as answered.

All you can do is edit the title of your thread to say it's been answered.

I have today received a message from a lady who has a very distance relationship to the Gourley line

on her husbands side. she is going to try and assist.

Can anyone tell me how do I mark this thread as now answered to avoid people spending more time looking up records, I appreciate work already done.

Thank you.

The original request came from a newspaper article in the LIverpool Echo a group are searching relations of 12 Merseyside men who died in WW1

The research for the daughter seems familiar - do you, or someone else, have another thread?
She, second husband & 1974 son with him (to 2003) were living in Hertfordshire to 2010. Unfortunately for you, the house was sold in 2010 & there are no further entries on the ER. Assuming they are all still alive & in the UK, they have probably opted out of the commercial registers.

Thanks all for replies.

A local newspaper was searching out information on a brother of Roland Stanley Gourley. The Group are looking for relations of men who died in WW1. Sgt Gourley was awarded the VC plus Medal for conspicuous gallantry, he actually survived the war.

There are 12 other men from the same regiment who didn't survive and they are looking for relatives.

Thank you

You MIGHT find the notice of his death in the local paper which could give date and place of burial, predeceased/survived by xxxx, but that would be all unless he was well known or had some other significant aura.

We could only do as you could - google the name.

Is there any specific reason why he should have an obituary ie was he in the public eye?

You could contact the nearest Library which has a local studies section. They may have regional historical newspapers on fiche. If you can't visit in person, they'd likely make a charge.

Alternatively, search the British Newspaper Archives. There would be a fee to view.
