The 1939 Register was a working document until about 1992. When a woman married, the name change was noted on the register with a date the name change was inscribed.

It can be very useful to us, giving a clue who a female married and approx when.

I was looking at the register for my local town and I saw that the married names of some entries had been added although I know that the marriages did not take place until the late 1940's and early 1950's.

How and why did this happen ?
