please help. why would 2 sisters Hazel Solomon(1917) and Sonia Solomon(1925) marry in 2 names which is their birth names (Solomon) and as a Selwyn? their mother Georgina (nee Orr) seems to have died in 1939 before they got married dying as a Solomon ?

I do not have the certs as yet! I have a few hours to catch up on my branches before i go back to work! I was hoping someone would be kind enough to explain to me why this situation would be! Im sure the certificates would help me.

It would seem both girls did a name change or were also known as selwyn

Maybe the family were German Jews and they changed their name because of WW2

It's all supposition though as it to why

Unfortunately, it is unlikely that anyone who isn't directly involved could offer a fully satisfactory explanation

Getting a copy of one of the certs would be a worthwhile investment if it is important to you


However...................
Looking at the image of 1939, there is a notation dated 12/4/48, which pre-dates the marriage (1.10.49) and could possibly indicate a name change by deed poll

The ref is NR230, which seems to be correct for Deed Poll
