My mother was born in Ireland and as I had automatic citizenship, in October of last year, I applied for a passport.
As a child of an Irish born citizen, this process was simple.
It took less than 6 weeks to arrive.

At the same time, all of my children applied for their births to be entered onto the foreign register. ( based on my mother's details)
This process is a bit more complicated and currently takes about 6-8months, after which, they can apply for a passport.

So long as my children's births are placed on the foreign register before they become parents, any future children that they have, will have the same rights.

I would advise that once your son has all the documentation, if possible, go in person to the Irish Consulate.

We did this and a very kind person there went through all the paperwork, ensuring that it was complete.
They don't offer this service as standard, but if they are not too busy, they are happy to help and advise.

We were also advised to inform them ASAP of any changes in circumstances where the application(s) may need to be fast tracked.

Yesterday, we forwarded additional documents.

Our expectant daughter needs to be on the foreign birth register prior to the birth of her child!

My grandaughter was born in Germany in 1982 whilst SIL was stationed there in the army

Her birth is on FMP under GRO births abroad

I recently got her a copy of her cert from the GRO with the birth record found on FMP

HI everyone.

Im not sure how to start this one. My son wants to apply for an irish passport. He currently has a British one. His father, who has sadly died, was a British and Irish citizen, his father was Irish and in the British army and his mother was English. .

My son's father was born whilst his family were posted in Germany, and I believe i saw his Irish naturalisation papers when we were married.

We are trying to trace how and where his birth was registered, can anyone help?

I also want to use this as a start to tracing my childrens irish family for them, as a link to their father, so would be really grateful for any help
