It arrived this morning.
She died 15 Jan and it wasn't registered until 4 April.
Still don't know why it took the care home so long
and I guess we never will as it has been closed now.

Could well be that there was a Post Mortem to ascertain the cause of death.

Almost certainly a Post Mortem - possibly even an inquest

Who actually registered the death?

Hi There was no PM or Inquest.
As she had no family in the UK social care took
over, but then no one seem to take responabilty.
We were phoning and getting no where !
It seems the Death Certificate got lost somewhere between different departments.
Case of right hand not knowing what the left is doing.
The informant was someone from Social sevices we assume.

That all sounds very odd if there was no Post Mortem or inquest.

There is a legal requirement to register a death within a much shorter time.

Yes Gwyn is a legal reuirement within 7 days
how they got away with leaving it for 3 months is anyones guess.

If her death was not unexpected, given her general state of health, there would be no need for a PM or inquest.
At least, that's the case in Scotland - I think it's the same in England.

Late registration might simply be the result of a paperwork oversight, regrettable though that would be.
As there was no family, the death could have been registered by any competent adult.
Maybe there was misunderstanding over who was actually going to do it, resulting in nobody doing it until they realised the oversight later.

But you can't arrange a funeral without a death registration unless you are given special permission.......

Not a good situation, but as the home has closed, it probably won't be easy to find out what exactly went on there.

Hmmm, yes, I take your point about the funeral!

That's why she wasn't cremated until the April 20th
the undertaker was waiting for the death certificate.
We will never get to the bottom of what went on
as Gwym pointed out.
We shall just have to draw a line and get on with life.
