Yeovil Town fc are nicknamed the Glovers

Yeovil has a long history of glove making

I don’t expect ‘late’ meant deceased - more likely to mean ‘formerly’

Have you looked for him in censuses after 1841?

Thank you Amokavid. Yes, he was a glove manufacturer, looking at the Yeovil 1841 census the place was crawling with them ;-)

Independent means looks right, it's funny how you can read into it what you're expecting to find!

I've also had problems finding a believable death record for him. According to the baptism record for two of his children he was a "late glover" in 1845.
