Searching for uncles sister jean Moorhouse. Married name jenkinson-Smith born around 1925. She was married to Samuel Jenkinson-Smith and lived in atherton, Manchester

So I think this is his death. Their marriage was in 1943 Rother Valley.

Alviegal's question about Jean's mother's maiden name is essential if we are to find her death (which is very likely if she was born around 1925.)

There were several Jean Moorhouses born in the West Riding around that time (assuming she was born near where she married) , and picking out one particular death of a Jean Smith without an accurate year of birth is impossible.

It might be impossible in any case, as it's such a common name.
Do you know if she remained in Atherton after her husband's death?
Or perhaps she died before Samuel?


If she did stay at least in the nearby area, there's this possible death in 2017 - but unfortunately no way to know if that's her or not without buying a copy of the death cert.

But there's no birth of a Jean Moorhouse without middle name in the West Riding in 1926.

why do you think that's Jean's birth in 1922?
Perhaps I haven't picked up on a clue somewhere.

Assuming she was born in the same area where she married, then she was born in the West Riding of Yorkshire.
Rother Valley was Rotherham RD at the time of her birth.

She wasn't born in Rotherham RD.
In the West Riding as a whole, as well as that 1922 birth, there's also one in 1921 in Bradford, and one in 1928 in Burnley.

If she had a middle name, which hasn't been suggested so far, then there are another couple of options.

If she wasn't born in Yorkshire, there's a 1925 birth in Lewisham.

We would look at the Electoral Rolls - and have done so - and you can too, under "Search" at top right of this page.

However, there are loads of Jean Smiths all over the place. Even if you limit the search to Lancashire, on the assumption that she might still live there, there are still lots of entries for that name.

You could start by getting a copy of her husband’s death cert, to see who the informant was.

It’s not impossible that she could be alive - but as she would be 98, there’s a good chance that she isn’t

Jean is on the ER at the address up to 2012 - period of occupancy 11 years

That brings me back to the 2017 death in Wigan & Leigh RD which I posted earlier.

That's the RD for Atherton, and that's the only death of a Jean Smith of approximately the right age in that RD - ever, per GRO and FreeBMD.

I know she was born in 1922, and the death record says 1926, but maybe the informant didn't know that. Susan herself was under the impression that she was born c1925.

Of course she may not have remained in Atherton after her husband's death.

Doesn't Leonard know his sister's wheareabouts?
