I wonder if she was adopted??

There's no Love/Webber birth of a female, 1911-1930, in England/Wales

Alice was unofficially adopted and was brought up by a Jack Love and his wife in the Luton Road area of Chatham, Kent (Medway). This is all one of her son's know.

Alice married Douglas Bragg in 1942 (Medway) and they had four children.

The above 1939 register find seems to be the one,,,,,,,,and jack was of course John J Love and the birthdate is just a few days out,

But knowing what her birth details officially are will be more difficult ,unless its know within her family.

Without knowing her birth name, I'm afraid we won't be able to find her birth record.

IF she was born in the Medway RD, and if the DOB is correct(ish), there are these possible illegitimate births in the July-Sept quarter :

Not Patricia Olive Mackay. Her surname changed to Deans later in 1924 (presumably because her mother married Mr Deans) , and she married in Chatham in 1945. She died in 2019.

Thank you ArgyllGran and Kay for all the information you have provided, it is always very much appreciated.

Was hoping the unofficial adoption of young Alice to the Love family, would lead me to a family member that had perhaps given birth out of wedlock. Her son says she knew she was adopted, but that was all she knew. Not a close family, so visits to adoptive grandparents few and far between and never any family history discussed.

Alice could have been legally adopted as it became a legal official requirment to process adoptions through a court..

There was the name Alice Bracer in the 1939 Register, under Alice Love's name, which was said to be a mistranscription. Is this a certainty, or could this have been her birth name?

With the other suggested possible illegitimate births at the time, I might see if there is a name connection to any of the Love/Webber members of the family, as Alice always said it was unofficial. Other than that I have come to a dead end.

The actual record for Alice has been amended, when it was updated with her married name of BRAGG.
Someone has misread that and the transcription shows Bracer.

There would be nothing to connect Alice to a different birth name, so no amendment by an official would be made.

Her name of Love on the image of the actual record has been later updated and BRAGG inserted.

Bracer does not come into it, other than a mis transcription.
