Jessie is female

If the records to which you refer are on GR, take out a 14-day free trial with FMP and submit your amendments using the ‘report an error’ button against the relevant record(s)

The records on Genes come from Find My Past so corrections have to be made on that site.

I don’t know if this instruction is still current but transcribers were told to write what they see not what they know. The original Ancestry transcriber were also said to be Indian - I have no idea if that was true.

Older style handwriting is very different to today’s hand.

Sorry ... Just remembered one specific issue was where the Census record was for a relative named Naylor and the transcriber had typed Moyles !! Not helpful in a search.

Thanks for the replies. I'm not sure where the transcriptions come from but they are the ones appearing when I'm searching on this site. I realise accuracy is necessary and in most cases I'm certain my information is correct. (I know people say this and are often wrong and I would be happy to be challenged on my facts :-) ) Having recently done some transcribing myself I see how its easy to make mistakes and typos. One example is where the gender has not been included as the name may be something like Jesse which could be either sex. In my own cases I could definitely provide the correct gender. In other cases names or places have been mistyped by the transcriber but are obviously wrong when you look at the original record.

All sites have facilities for posting amendments., but you need to be 100% certain that your amendment is accurate, as posting one which isn't would be counter-productive

Census transcripts can be done too on but additional info shouldn’t be added to what is on the original census page

You can though also add what the name should be and state why the correction is being made

In looking at recent birth transcripts and census records I have noticed that there is sometimes either missing information which I would be able to provide or obvious transcription mistakes which mean searched items are not returned and can be misleading. Is there a way to suggest corrections to the transcripts etc.?
