I wonder if anyone could enlighten me on dna numbers?
I have recently had a dna match of 1,518 cM across 37 segments but have never heard this persons name before. I cannot work out our relationship, Can anyone help?
Myself and this person are both in our 70's

This sounds quite close.
My nearest match is 54.9 cM and 2 segments and I can't identify him either.

If you both have family trees and none of the names match, then it may be that the match is through a 'father', ie not the one listed in the tree............

The DNA results show a close family member,,,,,,,,either a full sibling or each share one parent.resulting in a half sibling !

I think Kay may be right. There is a chart giving number of cM for different relationships here:-
