Family in 1911

STEWART JAMES 1911 M 36 334/ 7/ 6 Blair Atholl Perth

STEWART JESSIE M 1911 F 11 334/ 7/ 6 Blair Atholl Perth

STEWART CATHERINE 1911 F 5 334/ 7/ 6 Blair Atholl Perth

STEWART ANNIE 1911 F 9 334/ 7/ 6 Blair Atholl Perth

STEWART RATCHEL 1911 F 36 334/ 7/ 6 Blair Atholl Perth

STEWART ELIZABETH 1911 F 7 334/ 7/ 6 Blair Atholl Perth

and possible birth for Catherine.

STEWART CATHERINE F 1905 334/ 25 Blair Atholl

So it seems that the tree with Catherine born 1906 may be the most accurate.

Jessie is on 11 trees on Ancestry - three private, 8 public.

None of the public ones mention a child.
As is usual with trees, there are some glaring mistakes, such as a completely different wife and family for James in 1901, in Glasgow, in spite of that James's birth place being Glasgow and not Perthshire.
That assumption gives rise to various supposed (wrongly) half-siblings of Jessie being listed.

Several trees also give Jessie a sister Catherine 1910 (one says 1906) who apparently died in 1963 - though there's no such birth in Blair Atholl on SP, and no Catherine with the Blair Atholl family in 1911.
( EDIT: Yes there is - somehow I missed her. See Alviegal's post below.)

And so on . . .

I suppose it's possible that one of the private trees has more, and accurate, information.

Welcome to the boards, Judith.

Unfortunately, as you may know, it's not possible to include mother's maiden surname as a search term for births after 1854 on Scotlands People, so without buying lots of birth certs,( or spending credits to view certs, depending on year of birth), there's no way of knowing who a child's parents were.

The child wasn't necessarily born in Perthshire, and you're not sure if her name was Elizabeth. Stewart is a very common surname.

The family were still in Blair Atholl in 1911 - not that that helps with your query

STEWART
JESSIE M
1911
F
11
334/ 7/ 6
Blair Atholl
Perth

In the same household:
James, 36
Ratchel (sic), 36
Annie 9
Elizabeth 7

We don't know the child's birth name; her surname and possibly her first name would have been changed when she was adopted; and she is highly likely to be deceased by now.
There is really no possibility of making contact, I'm afraid.

Use Scotland’s People website to look for possible births - buy credits for the site to view certs for births which were over 100 years ago. Not that you will find out anything other than the child’s given name at birth, as adoption records are available only to the adoptee.

Look in ‘search all member trees’ to see whether anyone on GR has the mother in a tree.

Judith Report 10 Aug 2021 20:48

I’m looking for the female child that my great Aunt gave birth to in the Perthshire area of Scotland. I’m led to believe that her birth name would’ve been Elizabeth, her birth mother was Jessie Maule Stewart.
I’ve been told that Jessie was quite young when she had her baby, and also the child was illegitimate.
I’ve also been told that the now adult child showed up at my Great Grandmother’s house and received a frosty welcome.
As of now, there are plenty of the living relatives who would like to make contact with her.
Jessie Maule Stewart was born in 1900, and died in Murthly asylum in 1935. The reason for her being in the asylum is currently unknown, but we hope to gain access to record that will fill in some of those blanks.
If anyone knows anything about Elizabeth or Jessie that could help my family make contact, I’d very much appreciate the help
